magazine analysis

The typography used on this page is bold, the title especially as it is made to stand out from the main article. This is also influenced by the bold red colour, which is occasionally used around the outline of images and photographs to decorate the page, to me it is also a way of balancing the amount on the page, it make it equal.

The quote that is used is separated from the main article and big bold reed quotation marks have been used around it to make it stand out more. This technique is used to the readers eyes go to the quote, they then read the quote and it makes them want to read the whole article, it gives them a snippet of what is in the article before they have actually read the first sentence, it entices them to read on.

The photographs used don't include any drawings but it seems like Carson decided that the images were not to be manipulated using Photoshop as they all seem like the original apart from the words and letters placed over the top.

The colours that stand out to me are red and black, black is obviously used for the text of the article so it can be easily read, the red is there so the article stands out as red is generally used as a colour for warning about danger or saying stop.

Mixed media isn't used in any of the photo's or to decorate the page, it is just simple photographs and scanned things. Although Carson has used a type of collage technique to lay out the images and the text, this is a technique that I would like to continue with on my piece.
