Context
This piece is part of a series by Ashkan Honarvar, these were published in I Love You Magazine . It is made up of a series of collages using mixed media such a photos and cutouts from other magazines and books. I chose to analyse this piece because it used an interesting collage technique which is what I will be using in my final magazine.
Meaning
To help me with my further understanding of his work I have looked into various websites such as his own and looked at other pieces of work which intertwines nature and the human body together. "The woman depicted features different animal eyes, flowers and other
body parts." It shows the human body in a way we wouldn't normally see and by taking the other body parts and putting them in different places forces us to see the beauty in the body like the beauty in nature "The saying goes that beauty comes in all shapes
and sizes. It occurs in places you least expect.
Revealing its art in the human
body". The close ups of the flowers, arms and the eyes allow all parts to be seen even the "dark sides of human nature. The theme of his work is mainly bodies that explore the exploitation they have been through. It allows us to reflect on our life as well as his work as he is revealing all parts, nothing is hidden and opens the audience's eyes.
Aesthetic
The main technique that Ashkan has used is collage and has created this by using mainly photography and images from other sources. The flowers are very detailed and are very vintage due to the neutral colours which shows the natural and soft side to the flower. The photograph of the eye allows him to zoom in and show all the details of the eye. The images of the arms to me look like they are reaching out for something, to be noticed or to be helped. Maybe its so they are noticed, they want their identity back after they have been exploited.
The colours used are quite neutral they haven't been made brighter in any way which again shows them in the natural state that they are. There are certain parts that stand out like the leather jacket and the black and white eye, I think that this represents the body being covered and only revealing parts of the body which are acceptable to reveal.
Personal response
When I first saw this piece I really liked it, it is definitely something that I would like to try apart from the need to add drawings to my pieces. It has given me the idea of making pieces of my collage stand out by changing colours or adding things in places you wouldn't normally expect. It would allow me to get my theme across on each page of my magazine.
